NOTE TO WEB READERS WHO ARE AS WEB-UNSAVVY AS ME:
It is quite a challenge to make a 65,000-word document readable on the web, but we think the various features of the web design accomplish that.
Here are the key features:
- The side bar contains the complete table of contents, which you can collapse or open as needed: By clicking on the "+" near the chapter, you can open and see all the sections; by clicking on the "+" near the section, you can see all the sub-sections. In this way you can see the context in which the particular sub-section you are reading fits.
- The external web links open in separate windows or tabs depending on your browser: In this way, you can easily move back and forth from the main text to the particular links discussed in the part of the text you are reading.
- The endnotes and references pop up in a separate box when you hover over them: In that way, you do not have to go to the bottom of the text where that information is listed. Further, if there is a live link in those notes, you can click it directly from the pop up box.
- Clicking on a image will pop-up the image in a full-screen "lightbox."
- The options for printing: You can print a PDF of the entire guide, or of a particular chapter, or of a particular section; and, you can print each image separately.
COMING SOON
- Searching the document: When you search at the top, you will get a list of places where your search terms appear. Then, when you get to that section, you can use your browser's find operation to hone in on the exact location in the document.
- The discussion tab lets you contribute resource ideas, or comment on the usefulness of the resources, or send any new links for those that have rotted, or make any other contribution related to the guide.
ONE FINAL NOTE: Do read the introduction—this is a very large set of resources; the introduction gives an overview of how all the resources are connected to the overall purpose of the guide—to motivate students to become committed to social justice and to give them opportunities to act on those commitments.
